Mission of a Miner

Abdullah Al Moinee

In search of an island for courageous cultivation,

values of life conceive the mindful motivation

to set the sail towards the shore with integrity

inhaling the elixir of confidence and curiosity.

Paving the pathway with persevered patience

guides the gradual growth with elements and essence.

Hope on the horizon gets harmonic oscillation

rectifying the stream with integral gravitation.

Perceiving the presence of designed destination,

creativity sparkles with ideas and innovation

in the prolific land of S&T with a pivotal pledge

to create and convey the kindle of knowledge.

‘Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law;’

Let concern & care solve the challenges and flaw.

Insight of inclusion ignites the ubiquity of unity –

Ray of resilience excavates a land of sustainable entity.

Land of Light focuses to go beyond the surface

to get a closer look at the world with aspiration & ace.

Invincible philosophy propels the mission of a miner

to sense beyond senses within & beyond, always and ever.

Missouri S&T was chartered on Feb. 24, 1870, as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. Classes were first called to order on Nov. 6, 1871. In 2020-21, we commemorate our 150-year legacy of discovery, creativity and innovation. The Time Capsule is set to be sealed from Fall 2021 to 2071.

In 2020-21, S&T commemorates the 150-year legacy of discovery, history, creativity, and innovation. As part of the 150th anniversary, the campus will install a new time capsule that will be opened in 2071, the 200th anniversary of the university's first day of classes. A partnership among S&T, Arts Rolla, and Southwinds designed a free literary competition that was open to all Missouri residents, including out-of-state, and international students enrolled in S&T, as well as S&T alumni with a view to drawing attention to the 150-year celebration and building relationships in the community. Works of the winning authors will be included in the university’s time capsule, published in the 2022 edition of Southwindsand performed at an upcoming 150th-anniversary celebration event. It has been our pleasure to have your presence at the Cedar Street Playhouse (located in Ozark Actors Theatre) on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 6 p.m where winning authors was invited to talk about their pieces of literature and read them accordingly.
